Our Step-by-Step Process For Creating Beautiful Garden Projects

Step 1

Getting in touch

When you contact The Garden Project Co., you’ll have the opportunity to tell us about your project, ideas, and goals for your outdoor space. Ben or Toby will personally get in touch to arrange a telephone consultation, giving us the chance to learn more about your garden, lifestyle, budget, and overall vision.

During the consultation, we’ll discuss your ideas and inspiration, how you want to use the space, your approximate budget expectations, timescales and availability, as well as our design and build process.

Once we’ve discussed your project, we’ll arrange your in-person garden consultation at a convenient time. You’ll then receive an email confirmation with all appointment details, along with a text reminder the day before your consultation.

Step 2

Garden Consultation

During the consultation, we’ll visit your property to fully understand the space and your vision. Together, we’ll walk through your garden while discussing styles, materials, functionality, and the possibilities for the layout of your outdoor space.

We’ll also share previous project examples and design inspiration to help bring ideas to life, while explaining our full design and build journey so you know exactly what to expect throughout the process. This is also the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

At this stage, we’ll introduce our garden design service and outline the next steps for your project. Following the consultation, we’ll issue your garden design invoice.
Once payment is received, your project officially moves into the design phase.

Step 3

Site Survey & Project Brief

We’ll arrange a detailed site measure-up to gather everything needed for the design process. During this visit, we’ll take full site measurements, capture ground-level photography, and where suitable, use drone photography to gain a complete understanding of the space.

You’ll also complete a design questionnaire to help refine your preferences, priorities, and the overall vision for your garden. This information allows us to create a design tailored specifically to your lifestyle and property.

Step 4

Concept Design

We will begin designing your garden in line with the agreed brief, requirements, and overall vision. Your bespoke concept design will carefully consider the layout and flow of the space, along with planting schemes, materials, seating areas, and entertainment spaces to ensure the garden is both beautiful and functional.

We’ll also incorporate lighting, key features, and the practical day-to-day use of the space, while ensuring the design remains aligned with your agreed budget.

Step 5

2D Design Reveal & Feedback

Once the initial concept is ready, we’ll schedule your 2D design presentation. During this meeting, we’ll present the proposed layout and ideas, explaining the design thinking behind the scheme and how the space has been planned around your vision and requirements.

This stage is fully collaborative, giving you the opportunity to share feedback, discuss any revisions or adjustments, and refine the design before moving forward. Our goal is to ensure the final design feels exactly right before progressing to the next stage of the project.

Step 6

Final Design & 3D Visualisation

Once all revisions have been completed and approved, we’ll finalise your garden design and develop detailed 3D visuals along with a walkthrough video, showcasing both daytime and nighttime perspectives. These realistic renders allow you to fully visualise your transformed garden and understand how every element will come together before construction begins.

We’ll then schedule a full 3D design reveal where we guide you through the finished vision for your garden. During this presentation, we’ll showcase the detailed 3D walkthrough video and visuals while discussing materials, features, and the overall landscaping specification.

You’ll also receive a full project quotation with a detailed build breakdown, along with indicative installation timelines so you have a clear understanding of the next stages of the project.

Step 7

Pre-Installation

Once you’re ready to proceed, we’ll issue an invoice for a 10% deposit to secure your installation date within our build schedule.

Once your deposit has been received, we’ll begin preparing for the installation phase of your project. We’ll confirm your installation dates, send over your full quotation and Terms & Conditions for signature, and arrange a pre-installation site visit with your dedicated Project Manager.

As part of this stage, you’ll also meet with our planting specialist to discuss the soft landscaping and planting style for your new garden. Together, we’ll explore planting styles and colour palettes, seasonal interest and texture, low-maintenance or wildlife-friendly planting options, privacy screening and feature planting, as well as suitable trees, shrubs, and perennial selections.

Following the consultation, our planting specialist will create a bespoke planting plan carefully designed to complement your outdoor space and overall garden design.

Step 8

Installation & Build

Our team will begin transforming your garden in line with the approved design and agreed schedule. Throughout the installation process, we maintain regular communication and provide ongoing project updates to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience from start to finish.

During the build phase, weekly staged payments or instalments will be managed as agreed, while regular site visits are carried out to oversee progress and maintain quality control throughout the project.

Any necessary updates or adjustments will be discussed collaboratively to ensure every aspect of the garden is delivered to the highest possible standard.

Step 9

Project Completion & Sign-Off

Once your garden is complete, we’ll carry out a final walkthrough and project sign-off together to ensure every detail has been completed to the highest standard and fully meets your expectations.

We’ll also provide any aftercare and maintenance advice where needed, ensuring you feel confident in looking after your new outdoor space for years to come. Then it’s time to relax and enjoy your transformed garden.
