Our Brief

We met with the clients in their garden for an in-depth consultation, spending a couple of hours discussing their vision for the space. During this time, we explored how they planned to use their new outdoor area, what key features they envisioned, and the overall atmosphere they wanted to create. The clients shared their thoughts on functionality, style, and particular elements they felt were important, such as seating areas, pathways, and garden features. After listening carefully to their ideas and understanding their preferences, Our design team was able to get a clear sense of their brief. With this insight, we were ready to embark on an exciting design journey, helping the clients transform their garden into a unique and functional space that reflected their personalities while enhancing the beauty of their Grade II listed property.

Approach

We met with the client in their garden, around 2 months after they had moved in. It became clear that like many new developments, there were some very awkward angles and spaces within the garden that would need addressing. There was a mixture of retaining walls, garage walls and fences around the boundary, all at different heights too. After a 1.5-hour consultation with the client, we were thrilled to work on such a special project.

With a clear understanding of the clients' vision, our design team set to work, translating their ideas into a tangible plan. A fortnight later, we presented a comprehensive design that brought their dreams to life. Using cutting-edge technology, we showcased an accurate video representation of their new garden, complete with a detailed breakdown of the chosen elements.

The design seamlessly blended the property's rich history with modern functionality, incorporating the discovered York stone as a central feature. We proposed a mix of traditional and contemporary elements to complement the Grade II listed 17th-century home, including carefully curated plants, bespoke furnishings, and subtle water features.

Our presentation included detailed 3D renderings and material samples, allowing the clients to visualise how each element would work together. The clients were thrilled with the proposal, seeing their vision come to life in a way that respected the property's heritage whilst introducing fresh, contemporary touches. With their enthusiastic approval, we were ready to transform their overgrown garden into a stunning outdoor retreat.

The completed project beautifully transformed the client’s garden into a series of distinct yet cohesive outdoor spaces that perfectly complement their Grade II listed 17th-century home. The goal was to preserve the property’s historic charm while enhancing the outdoor experience with functional and visually appealing elements. Despite the garden being well-established, it had become heavily overgrown with shrubs, concealing the potential beauty within. However, York stone was discovered, and it became the highlight of the design.

Each area of the garden was thoughtfully curated to showcase the natural beauty of the York stone, with carefully placed paths, seating areas, and feature elements that draw the eye. The stone was used as a focal point in various parts of the garden, adding texture and a sense of timeless elegance that perfectly complemented the property's historic architecture.

The design balances practicality with aesthetics, creating spaces for relaxation, dining, and outdoor entertainment, while still retaining a strong connection to the natural surroundings. The addition of carefully chosen plants, traditional garden features, and bespoke furnishings ensures that the outdoor areas are as functional as they are beautiful, offering the clients a serene, welcoming environment to enjoy for years to come.
