Our Brief

Our clients, a retired couple in their 60s, have worked hard throughout their lives and are now looking to enjoy their well-earned leisure time. They sought a tranquil outdoor space that could accommodate both their individual needs and preferences, offering areas to relax, entertain, and bask in the warm English sun.

Approach

The husband enjoys gardening, particularly in a traditional setting, while the wife prefers a more modern and relaxing environment, focusing on comfort and outdoor entertainment. They wanted a garden that would blend these preferences and create separate zones while maintaining a harmonious overall design.

We turned the couple's dream into reality by designing a garden that blends their individual preferences into a cohesive and harmonious outdoor space. The husband’s love for traditional gardening was fulfilled with planted beds, and meandering pathways, creating a peaceful, hands-on gardening retreat. The wife’s desire for a modern, comfortable space was realised through a stylish patio, water feature and pergola, designed for relaxation and entertainment. We ensured seamless flow between the two zones with winding paths, cohesive planting, and a calming water feature. Personal touches, like art and sculptures, added character. The final result is a garden that beautifully balances both their needs—providing a tranquil space for gardening and relaxation, while also accommodating social gatherings and comfort.

The final garden offers a perfect balance between the couple's individual preferences. The husband can indulge his love for traditional gardening in a peaceful and well-organized environment, while the wife can enjoy modern comforts, entertainment, and relaxation in a stylish, contemporary space. The two zones are beautifully connected through thoughtful landscaping, ensuring that each area feels distinct yet cohesive, making the entire garden a peaceful and functional retreat for both of them.
