Our Brief

Our client approached us with a unique challenge: to transform their already hard-landscaped garden into a lush, vibrant, jungle-esque outdoor space. Given they had already completed the majority of the structural works, the client required a bespoke design to really make the new space their own.

The primary goal was to create two distinct “rooms” within the garden using mature plantings, providing an instant impact and a green, idyllic atmosphere within their urban surroundings in Oxford. The clients envisioned a soft, natural oasis that would serve as a peaceful escape from city life, complete with a relaxing hot tub area.

Our Approach

To meet our client’s vision, we focused on creating a design that would maximise the use of larger, mature, plants to achieve the desired instant impact. We carefully selected a variety of lush, tropical-inspired species that would thrive in the local climate while providing the jungle-like aesthetic the clients desired

Our design approach included:

  • Selecting mature plants with substantial foliage to create immediate visual impact and privacy.
  • Incorporating a diverse range of textures and heights to mimic the layered appearance of a natural jungle setting.
  • Using strategic placement of plants to delineate two distinct areas within the garden, creating separate “rooms” as requested.
  • Integrating clean timber elements along the garden’s edges and decking to provide a natural, cohesive look that complements the lush greenery.
  • Carefully considering the placement of bright blooms to add pops of colour and vibrancy throughout the space.
  • Ensuring the hot tub area was seamlessly incorporated into the design, surrounded by lush plantings for a truly immersive experience.

The Finished Design

Our proposed design successfully transformed the client’s urban garden into a luxurious, tropical retreat. The centrepiece of the outdoor space became the luscious, mature plantings, creating an immediate and striking visual impact. The strategic use of clean timber across the garden’s edges and decking provided a beautiful contrast to the abundant greenery, resulting in a harmonious blend of natural elements.

The finished design effectively created two distinct “rooms” within the garden, each with its own character yet flowing seamlessly into one another. The first area serves as a vibrant, jungle-inspired space filled with towering plants and colorful blooms, perfect for daytime relaxation and entertaining. The second area, housing the hot tub, is enveloped in lush greenery, offering a more intimate and secluded spot for evening unwinding.

Planting Options

Alongside the design service we offered, the client also required us to implement and install the planting options throughout the garden. So even when working on a more typical ‘design only’ project, we’re happy to install the aspects of the garden you require. At The Garden Project Co., our teams expertise in all things horticulture can always be counted on.
